covid tests accepted at hotels?

We are planning a trip to Portugal in September, and after looking through their 3 stage plan, it looks like a negative test will still be required to stay in a hotel at that point. I'm not sure what kind of negative test will be accepted?

For example, could I bring a bunch of binax at home antigen tests with us and could we use those? Or are they looking for a PCR test done by a lab in Portugal? Our negative tests from home should still be in the 72 hour window when we check in in Lisbon, but we're planning to go to Nazare about 5 days after arrival and I'm wondering if we'll need to get a test done in Portugal before checking into that hotel. I haven't been able to figure this out, so any info would be welcome!

It was somewhat hard for me to find something specific in writing but here is a link.

I have been hearing that not every hotel or vacation rental is complying but I observed police checking at a restaurant on Saturday night, so there is monitoring going on. I’ve also read that a number of hotels are keeping some of the tests for guests to administer on the spot. The tests are available for purchase at farmácias and some supermarkets.

Of course, all this could change by September but the above website should keep up to date information.

We are here now and hotels are either testing upon arrival with their tests (for which we have been paying euro 2-5), you may have to get one in town at a pharmacy for about 25 euro. Either way, I wouldn't bother to bring them with you. They are probably going to want to use their own tests. Hotel tests are only good in the hotel and for them to prove to the authorities that they are following the rules. With or without the local test, expect to eat outdoors because you don't have a European certificate.

Thank you! This is very helpful information, and honestly something of a relief. We were worried about the logistics of this. . Sounds like maybe we should just check in with our hotels a little closer to when we leave and make sure that they can administer a test to us

We're planning to avoid eating inside anyway, so that won't be a problem, but are tourist sites and museums requiring the EU health certificate or a test? (I know this could all change by Sept)

PS www.schengenvisainfo.com has an article today on how much COVID tests cost these days. Italy is a bargain, Belgium not so much. Museums, cathedrals etc we have visited require temp checks, masks and liberal application of supplied hand sanitizer. Today, the monastery at Alcobaca enforced social distancing in the ticket line, but not inside. We had lunch at a small neighborhood diner; they didn't ask for anything, so there you go. Depends on where you are and who is at the door

We are here now and we just had to show our vaccination card. If you are not vaccinated they want a PCR test result.

Tremendous info here so thanks to all of you. We have plans to fly to Lisbon on 9/19 and will be taking some Binax tests with us, including the Binax Ag-Card test that United and other major carriers currently accept for re-entry. They are the same tests as the simple Binax test but have to be done virtually with a health professional within 72 hours (I believe, correct me if wrong). The Card test is actually 2 identical tests done at the same time for more confident results.

So my question is, should I expect a requirement at some point for a PCR test during my trip where Rapid tests are not acceptable? I will also have my vaccination card with me.
