Covid related question

Call your airline and ask your questions, best way to get a straight answer. I'd also wait until the week of your travel, giving yourself enough time to get test results if they are needed. ( they aren't right now, just proof of vaccination - better if you are boosted)

Things are changing almost daily now with Covid, so no way to predict what the requirements will be by the end of this month. The war in Ukraine may have more of an affect on our future travel than Covid.

Assuming you are arriving by air or sea, you need to follow the rules of the Visit Portugal site. I’m assuming you do not have an EU digital COVID certificate. Please note that the CDC card is not considered reciprocal in Portugal and will not be accepted as proof of vaccine, at least as of now. That means that you will need to provide a negative test prior to arrival (PCR within 72 hours of departure, approved antigen 24 hours prior to departure).

United’s site says when traveling to Portugal with a stop in the UK, no test is required. We are doing just that in 2 weeks. I’ve confirmed twice with United.

To be on the safe side, I'd get a covid test. I know they are required for US citizens to enter regardless of vaccination status. I'm not sure how spending time in the UK changes that, but perhaps it does. Anyways, Portugal is checking when you enter and not only will the airline be fined, but the individual if a test was needed but not provided. Better safe I think.

Please forgive me if I’m wrong, but, if you are from the US, I believe the United agents who said you don’t need a test are wrong. According to the Visit Portugal link I posted above (the government site), If you are flying in to Portugal, it’s not where you are coming from that matters but which documents you have. You must have one of the following:
1) An EU digital COVID certificate (only available to those who received their vaccines within the EU)
Or
2) A valid vaccine card from a third country under reciprocal conditions. The US and Canada are NOT included here
Or
3) A valid test or recovery certificate (as specified above)

This is the government site and, though it may be a little hard to understand, these are the entry requirements for flying into the Portugal for all countries. It’s certainly possible that, due to the airline’s confusion, you’ll still be able to fly to Portugal and have no problem, but right now, these are the requirements. I would make sure to take the tests before leaving.

Per the Sherpa site, you need a negative covid test to enter Portugal.
