Cork Farm - Evora Area

We will have a rental car and will be traveling from the Algarve area to Evora and eventually Lisbon. En route to Evora is it possible to see the cork trees/farms/forest(?) as we drive or do we need to go on a tour to see the cork trees? We will be there end of June.

You will see a lot of cork trees as you drive through the Alentejo area. Amorim is one of the larger companies that harvests and uses the cork. I did a tour with them but it was a large group tout arranged ahead. Maybe someone else know of individual tours, if that interests you.

(from my trip in May 2019) You can book a tour through Facebook at Corticarte Em Arte in Azaruja. the phone is +35 1 966 776 615 It's a few kilometers outside Evora and well worth visiting.

The tour explained in detail and with lots of examples everything cork from acorn to processing to all the many uses and ended with an amazing array finished goods in the shop. Both the variety and prices were much better than anywhere else in the country.

As Kathryn said, you'll see lots of oak groves.

Thank you Kathryn and Chani!

Chani...I did see your earlier post regarding the company you used and tour. I do have that on my radar as well. It sounds like an interesting, informative tour. Thanks again!
