Connecting flights in Madrid

Good morning.
I am trying to book a return flight Porto to Chicago. The only flight offered is Porto to Madrid and Madrid to Chicago - Iberia/Ammerican Airlines. There is only 55 minutes between the flight for connection.

My reaction is that is not enough time. The flight information indicates the flights are in different terminals.

I am trying to find a map of the terminals to see if this is even possible. Secondly, I know flights will be rescheduled between now and April when the flight occurs. I am looking for advice. Thank you.

I agree that the connection time is too short, and I don't think I would risk it. Madrid's airport is huge and I find it confusing and you say it involves a terminal change. Some of the terminals are rather distant one from another. If you were to miss that connecting flight are there any later flights they could put you on? you said that is the only flight offered, I assume when you did a search you used the airlines' websites. Try searching on google flights or kayak and see if anything else comes up and then go back to the airlines' websites. Also a possible call to your airlines could give you additional options. Have you searched on TAP Portugal? Or must you stay with AA? Do a search for “map of Madrid Barajas airport” and you will see the terminal locations and transport options between them.

Consider starting the trip by taking the train to Lisbon, that will give you more options. Including a direct flight to Chicago with TAP.

Thank you...... I went back and found a flight with multiple stops which I booked - 2 1/2 hours between the flights.
