Questions re: Current Covid Requirements

We are US citizens and will be traveling to first to Barcelona, Spain before heading to Lisbon in May 2022. We have our CDC covid vaccination/booster card. We do not have an EU digital vaccination card. Without an EU digital vaccination card, travelers will need to take PCR / NAAT test 72 hrs prior to boarding or a rapid antigen / TRAG test 24 hours priort to boarding. Do I have this correct? I do realize rules may change before we travel, but just want to make sure I am understanding this correctly now. Thanks.

You are close. It’s actually just an antigen test within 24 hours of departure of your flight. And, there is a Passenger Locator Form to complete. The airline should give you a link to it.

But, you are correct in that so much could, and likely will, change before then. There are rumblings of the government meeting with the medical experts soon regarding relaxing restrictions. It’s anyones guess as to whether relaxing restrictions will include travel.

Safe Communities Portugal is a good site to keep up with changes and information.

kathrynj,
I’m also a US citizen with just the CDC card so I understand that, as of now, I still will need to get tested. My bigger concern is whether we will need to provide negative tests every few days throughout our trip in order to enter places such as museums, restaurants and hotels. Do you know how strictly this requirement is currently being enforced?

We are traveling in May so I’m hopeful by then things will relax.

This is in response to paulasue. I had a friend from the states here for three weeks recently. All the restaurants in which we ate inside (admittedly not that many) readily accepted her CDC card.
However, by May you should have no worries - unless some new variant comes along. Keep watching the site i mentioned earlier for the latest info.

Thank you, kathrynj. I’m pretty hopeful that we will be able to go and enjoy the many experiences Portugal has to offer, but it’s always helpful to hear what is actually happening. And May, in COVID time, is certainly a very distant future in which many changes will probably occur - hopefully, all for the better!
