Can anyone recommend where to stay in Late June. Would like to stay in old town but walking distance is good too. Some of the reviews are not as good. So asking the forum for help. Thanks.
On the summer 2014 RS Portugal tour, we stayed in the Hotel Astoria Coimbra, a venerable Art Nouveau wonder along the river. Don't know the rates, but our room was a wow, at the curved front end of the bldg, three huge windows With Views & a balcony!, spacious, antique furniture, good bed, good full breakfast. Only negative was not enough elec. outlets, but now we travel with a multiple charger :) The main boulevard's traffic did not keep us awake. We were bussed up to the hilltop University, then walked down thru the Almedina Moorish neighborhood; walked that nt to intimate performance at Fado ao Centro. Immediately near the hotel are charming small shops, restaurants, bakeries, a Romanesque church. Greenspace along the river, nice walk to terrific dinner at Restaurante a Portuguesa/similar name. Really enjoyed Coimbra (can you tell!).
@ Steward: yay, I just booked based on your recommendation for Hotel Astoria. It looks fabulous and you can't beat the rate! Thank you!
You're very welcome. Hope it's still good!
