Where might I find restaurants and supermarkets that offer gluten free options in Lisbon, Porto, Algarve region

Most restaurants that are seafood/fish focused will have options for you. The fish is frequently served grilled with a simple salad, boiled potatoes or fries and possible grilled veggies. Of course, they do offer bread, but breaded fish (panada) is clearly stated on the menu. Shrimp (camarão) is frequently fried - which is usually just sautéed in garlic butter. Churrascarias have chicken (frango) that is similar to rotisserie chicken with no breading. Sometimes called piri-piri chicken (you can have the hot sauce on the side) and it is excellent.

The main supermarkets in the Lisbon area are Pingo Doce, Auchan and Continente. They all have pretty good websites where you can check for who has the best selection of gluten free items. I frequently see gluten free breads on the Continente site. Another options are the Bio stores. They might possibly have more items that are gluten free than the mainstream supermercados.

I have a friend who was gluten free for a number of months and she had little difficulty, as long as we stayed away from the pizza and pasta restaurants.

As someone who is unable to tolerate any gluten the information you provided is extremely helpful. Thank you so very much.
