Does anyone know of direct transportation from Cascais to Sintra?
Looks like I must go through Lisbon if I take the train.
You can take bus 403 or 417 from Cascais bus terminal to Sintra. 403 is scenic and takes you directly to the train station (very close to it) but is significantly longer. Bus 417 is shorter but you have to transfer to another bus at the Portela station in Sintra - or get on the train one stop to the Sintra train station. I’ve only taken the train from Portela so am not certain how to do it by bus.
The last time I went on 403,I decided it might have been shorter to go into Lisbon and catch the train! It’s that long a ride with many stops.
May I suggest taking a taxi? We did last year from the train station in Sintra into Cascais, cost was 20 Euros and took about 20 minutes.
Thanks for the ideas. We know it is doable now.

TAXI strike!
We put plans A&B together the night before and it happened in Porto. We were taking the train to Lisbon 3 days ahead of our flight home. Started on 9/19 no taxis our stay in Lisbon, left 9/21/18 with a shuttle arranged by our hotel to get to the airport.
You could be in Europe for any number of work, transportation strikes! Better to be prepared.
Unfortunately, the taxi strikes are not regularly reported by the STEP program. At least not here in Portugal. I get emails about any type of demonstration that occurs but rarely of the taxi or train strikes. Luckily, both are infrequent and for only a day - if they happen as announced!
The government wouldn't classify a taxi strike as an emergency, would it?
