Is this a doable day trip? We have 3 extra days on Lisbon before picking up our tour and would like to see areas not included with the RS tour. All suggestions welcome.

Yes. It's a very easy day trip. If you have the Lisboa card, it will include the fare for the train to Cascais, and the trip is only about 30 minutes or so. Bring swimsuits if you want to spend time at the lovely beach.

I loved Cascais. If Sintra is also not on the itinerary, see if you can make it there too.

Agree with Maria. In fact, I'd suggest Sintra over Cascais, if you have to choose. (I assumed it was part of the RS tour, though.)

Doesn’t appear that Sentra is part of our tour itinerary so will check that out also. Any hints in getting to Sintra?

It's also an easy 30-minute or so train ride from Lisbon and is included in the Lisboa card. Once there, if you want to go to the Pena Palace and Moorish Castle, you need to take a bus or taxi up--these are available from the train station.
