Carnival Lisbon

I read that there is some Carnival activity the weekend before the Tuesday parade. Does anyone know if that is true? I am trying to do an itinerary for Lisbon from Friday until Tuesday.

You might be able to find a small celebration but Carnaval isn’t really a big thing in Portugal.

We were in Portugal over Carnival in 2020, I had done some looking and saw some, but not much in regards to celebrations. I seem recall mention of a parade in Lisbon on Tuesday, but mainly discussion of parties and general carousing, rather than organized events (other than private parties). I imagine the last couple years have been either cancelled or gatherings discouraged, so hard to tell what will occur in 2022.

We wound up spending the weekend in Loule in the Algarve, they do a parade with a political satire bent to it. I expected a few more activities for the general public other than the parade, but there really was not.

It seems most Carnival activities come down to a Parade, and then private or events where you pre-purchase tickets for a ball or dinner. In some places, there probably are a few more groups of people out partying.
