We will be in Portugal for about 1 and 1/2 months in February-March. We will be in Lagos until about February 16. We are interested in experiencing Carnival in Portugal and would appreciate any suggestions for where we might do this, especially in the south. We probably won’t be able to be in Lisbon at this time. I understand that it begins February 25. Any suggestions, advice, etc. are welcome.
Carnival in Portugal isn’t the big deal it is in Spain. There are no parades in Lisbon or Porto that I’m aware of. There are at least a few small towns that have parades, but if you want a big celebration, you might want to go to Spain. Sevilla has a huge one - so big I’ve avoided it. I’ve been told Salamanca has a nice carnival, and it is an easy drive from the central part of Portugal.
