Car Rental (Libson to Douro Valley to Porto)

We are looking at renting a car from Lisbon (picking up when we are ready to leave the city) and then driving to the Douro Valley and making some stops along the way. We will stay 2 days in Douro Valley. We plan to then drive to Porto and drop off our car as soon as we get to Porto (we do not want a car in Porto). We will take the train back from Porto to Lisbon.

What are car rental companies that you recommend for this? We want the pick up and drop off to be as seamless as possible, especially since we are dropping off in a different city than picking up.

We picked up our rental at the airport when leaving Lisbon and dropped it off at Porto airport two weeks later. We always book rental cars through AutoEurope.com and usually get Avis, Hertz or EuropCar through them. Fair prices and excellent service. When leaving Porto we took a taxi over the Spanish border and picked up a new rental car, avoiding the very high charges of picking up and dropping off a car in different countries.

I would highly recommend Sixt Car Rental. Very good prices and they treated us great. DO NOT LEAVE anything in your car that is visible through the windows. We had a window broken for two waters and a coke in a cooler bag and it cost us $323. Fortunately the credit card we used to rent the car picked up the bill but paper work and police reports were tiresome. If your credit card does not cover this buy the extra insurance. Theft is very common in Portugal.

My last rental was with Sixt and all went well. I also check on kemwel.com which provides a list a rental companies in Europe, you can choose a different drop off city too.
