Car rental in the Azores

I'm excited about my planned trip to the Azores next summer. We're going two weeks (constrained by flight times). I've just had a look at car rental companies and slightly taken aback by the prices. I know there is advice to book car rentals early as they can run out (we're going end of July beginning of August) but am I being stung for trying to get ahead of the game or are they really that expensive? I'm being quoted £335 for 2 weeks next summer for a Ford Fiesta (which is about as small as I can go) but if I look for next week I can get it for £110 for a fortnight. Is this just laws of supply and demand or if I hold my nerve might I get it cheaper?

That price is a steal for 2 weeks in the summer. Most times a rental is booked through a consolidator and can be changed as many times as you want when/if you find a better deal, and can be cancelled as well up to a few days before arrival. This applies even if it is a prepaid voucher, so check the fine print on the company.

I will send you a private message with more information in my Azores guide.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I was spoilt renting so cheaply in Denmark this summer! Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that Ryanair don't cut their Stanstead -> Ponta Del Garda route for next summer!

Just for reference, I booked my car rental for the Azores about two months in advance through Wayzores and it came out to about 33 euros per day.

Feeling quite pleased with myself that using Skyskanner to search rather than Rentalcars.com I've managed to get the same car for an even better rate of £256 for two weeks. No insurance extras as I always buy my CDW separately.
