Car in Lisbon

How difficult is it to drive in Lisbon. I was planning on driving to my hotel in Lisbon and then leaving the rental car in an underground parking garage during my stay and then driving on to Porto. Is that manageable or should I leave the car outside of Lisbon somewhere and taxi to my hotel?

Pick up a car at Lisbon airport when you are leaving the city to head north to Porto.

We've been to Lisbon and Porto many times. We have taken a taxi (flat rate) or the subway from the airport, very easy. We take the train to Porto. Porto and Lisbon are very walkable. We've even Uber'd to Cascais from Lisbon for $25. IMHO, forget the car.

I am guessing OP will pick up car from somewhere else, tour parts of Portugal, before driving into Lisbon for a stay and then driving on to Porto. It may be very expensive to incur the additional drop-off fees (end car rental upon arrival in Lisbon and commence new car rental upon departure of Lisbon to drive to Porto). Depending upon length of stay, it may be much cheaper to just keep and park the original rental car during the Lisbon stay and using the same car to drive on to Porto. If so, I would do the latter. Driving in any foreign city is always nerve-wracking, especially with a manual transmission in the narrow and hilly streets of Lisbon. I would use google maps and streetview to preview and plan the route in the city well before arrival (I hope you have a good navigator) and park the car until I need to leave. You may wish to consider finding accomodations with free parking away from busier city center. Good Luck.
