In the UK the over 70s have to renew their Driving Licence every 3 years. My licence expires in June this year. Car Hire companies (at least in Portugal) require a licence to be at least 1 year old. Mine will be just 2 months. I can't see that I am the first to have been affected in this way. So, any suggestions how I can resolve this?

I believe the requirement of the license to be at least one year in effect applies to newly-licensed young adults. The car rental agencies don’t want to rent their vehicles to 18-year olds with little experience behind the wheel.
You might e-mail the car hire agency you’re considering renting from to be certain, but I think you should be fine.
