We will be arriving at Faro Airport around 8 am on Wednesday, December 18. We plan to travel immediately to Lisbon by bus. There are several bus options available - Flixbus to Oriente Station, Alsa to Lisbon Sete Rios and Rede Expressos to Sete Rios. Is it necessary to rebook tickets? I’m reluctant to do so in the event our flight is delayed. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to any of these bus options? Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
I don't know about the bus systems. Is there a reason you wouldn't take a train?
It seemed more convenient to take a bus directly from the airport or is the train available there as well?
And in my mind the question that pops up is why are you flying to Faro if you're going to Lisbon? Wouldn't it be a lot easier to find a flight to Lisbon?
We are flying return to Faro because we will be spending the majority of our time in the Algarve with friends and family. So upon arrival, we will spend a few days in Lisbon and then rent a car to drive to the Algarve and will return the car to Faro AIrport. And in anticipation of the question of why we didn’t fly open jaw, we are flying Air Transat which has direct flights from Toronto to Faro and we are travelling with our daughter, son in law and 2 small children who are spending their time exclusively in the Algarve.
If anyone has advice on buses from Faro airport to Lisbon it would be greatly appreciated.
The Alsa Bus also serves the Oriente Bus and Rail station.
Rede Expressos also serve both Oriente and Sete Rios.
What would worry me is that none of the 3 bus routes are super frequent, and depend on an on time arrival.
My gut reaction is that there are more trains than buses to take you onto Lisbon. There is an airport city bus service, although a taxi would of course also do. See CP for rail schedules-

Irrespective of the merits of one bus company over another, my own thought would be to take the bus if you were on time and there was availability- in December there should be. Otherwise head for the train. Train tickets can be bought on the spot in Portugal and can't sell out. Again in December the trains are unlikely to be super busy.

We took an Uber or taxi from the Faro airport to the train station. I think it was a 10 minute trip.
Thanks so much. That was very helpful!
Thank you both for the information
