Bus day trip from Lisbon to Obidos

My wife and I want to do a round-trip day trip from Lisbon to Obidos. Reading the website for the bus company servicing the route, it seems pretty straight forward, but I'd appreciate any comments from people who've made the trip ... i.e. ease of finding the stations, dependability of the route timing, where tickets are purchased, etc. Thanks.

Once you arrive there, two hours is all the time you need there to see it all. Cute town, but lots of tourists. There are plenty of other places you could add to this day such as Alcobaça, the burial place of Portugal’s royalty, a beautiful monastery, c.1100. We stayed in Obidos which was a mistake due to crowds although the Pousada there is a castle and was a nice experience.

Not saying you should change your plans, but we used a touristy, packaged bus tour from Lisbon to Obidos and two other popular sites in a single day. No planning, no worrying about whether we're at the right bus stop. Obidos is pretty, but I agree that it doesn't require a full day. It's a poor comparison, but there are other isolated small cities that have a heavier weight of history, and fewer souvenir shops, like Monemvasia or Perouges.

I've not taken the bus to Obidos, but have taken one to Evora. In that case, the process was easy and the bus was comfortable. We bought tickets at the station. I can't see you having any issues with the one to Obidos.

Personally, I like Obidos. But do be aware that Obidos can get crowded and is a small walled city. But what a cute walled city it is. Make sure you walk the walls.

And as Suki mentioned, if possible add Alcobaça to your plans.

Hi Gail: Do you have tips about Evora? We are thinking about spending one night there after Lisbon. Did you stay overnight at somewhere you would recommend? thanks!
