For a day trip from Porto... Would you choose Braga or Guimaraes on your own or there is a tour offered that takes in both in a single day? How best to make the most of that one day? Thank you.

Braga is a larger city than Guimarães. I find Guimarães more charming as a result. Also, It is historically more important. So, I would choose Guimarães, and I would not attempt both in a day. This is an easy DIY excursion by train.

Guimares is a wonderful choice for a day trip. We stayed there several nights when exploring the Minho region. It was the first Capital of Portugal.
