Booking Ahead?

Hello,

We are considering a trip to Portugal, but it would be fairly last-minute...we'd be traveling at the end of August/beginning of September. I'm not even to a point yet where I know exactly what our itinerary will be (that's our next step), but was wondering: are there any things we should be aware of that definitely need to be booked ASAP/in advance so we don't end up out of luck? For example, I'm thinking of things like when we were in Florence, and the Uffizi Gallery required advance booking otherwise you might not be able to get in because they sell out. Is there anything like this in Portugal? A main one on my radar is perhaps our lodging in the Algavre region. Thanks!

There is definitely not anything in the Algarve as you mentioned in a previous post. If you are going to be in the Lisbon area, you might want to book tickets ahead for some of the palaces in Sintra. But there really aren't blockbuster type museums, etc. in Lisbon like in Florence. The big attraction (IMO) is more than ambiance of the city.
However, accommodations in the Algarve are be a very different story. I would book as soon as possible and don't expect to get your first pick of hotels or apartments. The Algarve is very popular with the British and lots of things book up many months ahead.

You will lucky to find decent accommodation in the Algarve that isn't already booked for August. You may also struggle for early September, but this will be easier than August.

The Algarve is all about the beaches and golf and therefore nothing needs booking in advance.
