Binax Proctored Covid Tests

Hello fellow travelers,

I’ve read through the threads regarding the testing requirements and experiences. Has anyone successfully traveled specifically with the Binax proctored covid test results? I successfully used them twice last year to travel to Italy. The Travel Portugal site says that “home tests” aren’t accepted per the requirements for the EU certificate requirements, but the EU does accept the Binax self tests that are proctored.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience with these tests and entry to Portugal.

Unless something has changed from when I went in December, the Binax proctored tests are only good for your return to the United States and are not accepted for entry to Portugal. I am going to Portugal again next week and have a PCR test scheduled at a pharmacy within 72 hours of my departure to Portugal, and have the Binax proctored tests to put in my suitcase to take in Porto the day before I return. I am flying United, and in the travel prep section, they funnel you to a site to schedule a test in a pharmacy for the journey to Portugal, and then funnel you to a site to buy the Binax tests for your return from Portugal to the US.

FWIW, many people are saying that upon arrival in Portugal, they aren't being asked for test results but I obviously would never travel without having one just in case.

I used the Binax proctored to ENTER the US. used the local testing site (antigen, free) for entry to Portugal.

at entry to Portugal, after immigration, they have a couple of airport employees casually (1 second) check of paper document. I showed my vaccine card and asked him if he wanted to see the test. his response "don't care show me something". you could take the Binax now test, print it out and it will be totally fine.

all they read for is "negative" and the date. no one has the time or bandwidth to verify which test and type and the whole shebang.
