Best Winery/Tasting Room in Vila Nova de Gaia

As part of our free day in Porto, we would like a recommendation for a good winery to visit in Vila Nova de Gaia. Since we’re taking a day tour to the Douro Valley the next day, we don’t want to spend too long of a time in Vila Nova de Gaia but would like a “taste”.

Of the two we visited, we liked the wines at Adriano Ramos Pinto more than Caves Cálem.

We were there last fall and my daughter went to Taylor's. They planned to do the cellar tour but opted for lunch, which they said was amazing and had plenty of port on the menu. On another note, the RS guidebook has a section on Vila Nova de Gaia, the cellars and the area. I would check that out, too.

I was in Porto a month ago. The Burmester cellar was a good simple tour and tasting for me. It was right next to the Luis I bridge.

Last October I spent 5 days in Porto, and while I am not a fan of sweet wines (or Port) I reserved a space and time with Sandeman for their cellar tour and tasting of old Ports. It was a nice experience, interesting, in English, and I had great company with the people I toured with, a couple of which I still keep in contact with.

Also on that square is a wine tasting place called Porto Cruz, which has wines from the Douro and beyond, which are not Port, and were much more to my liking.
