Best time of year to visit Portugal

We are retired and will have approx. 4 - 5 weeks to explore Portugal. Would prefer to avoid crowds and hottest weather. We know this is very general but any recommendations for dates ? TIA.

Do you like asparagus/artichoke season? or fig/grape season?

Fig/grape season sounds good to me. Are there large differences between temps. May/June and mid-Sept - Oct. ? TIA

I agree with Swan, Spring and Fall are the best times to visit. Spring can be rainly but the countryside is green and there are fewer tourists. The fall has drier weather. Average daily temperature for Lisbon in May is 71 F, Sept. is 79 F and Oct. 72.

Last year, I visited in November and the weather was perfect. Cool and dry. Crowds were nonexistent at any of the sights I visited.
