We will be in Lisbon for 6 days in mid-April (Thursday 4/16 -Wednesday 4/22) and are planning a day trip to Sintra. Are there best days of the week to visit Sintra (or, conversely, days to avoid due to closures or crowds?)

Yes and No. Many of Lisboa's major attractions are closed on Monday - making it the logical Sintra visit day. However, because of this, it isn't exactly a secret. If you can - avoid weekends.

I’ve read Wednesday or Thursday are the best days to go. However, Sintra is a mad house most of the time, so be prepared for crowds.

The gardens in Sintra are well worth seeing, but not as much fun when it is raining. Many of the garden paths get slippery when wet.
