Hello - my wife and I are planning on a trip to Spain and Portugal in the Fall 2019. We are looking at three nights in Porto plus six nights in Lisbon, with day trips from Lisbon. We are thinking of reducing one of the nights in Lisbon in exchange for an overnight in one of the day trip locations. If you were limited to choosing one overnight in either Evora, Sintra, Obidos or Coimbra which one would you choose?
Evora or Coimbra. Sintra can be covered from Lisbon as a day trip. Obidos is a 2 hour visit, not an overnight stay compared to Evora or Coimbra.
Evora or Coimbra would be my choices - with Evora having a slight edge over Coimbra. Definitely not Obidos. Staying overnight in Evora would give you time (if you pushed it) to do the Megalith tour. This tour is pretty amazing and one of my favorite things to do in Evora. The food in both places is very good but Evora has more of a wine influence being in the middle of the Alentejo. But, wine is everywhere in Portugal. The university library in Coimbra is also wonderful.
I would encourage you to research each town and see what jumps out at you as your preference.
3 votes for Evora!
Thanks Jennifer, Kathyrn and Phillip! Very helpful advice.
