Best bus option from Lisbon to Porto?

We were caught by surprise by the news that the rain took a major toll on the high speed trains going north and they’re not running until further notice.

I’ve noticed a few bus brands - I’ve heard of Flexibus but not the others. Has anyone tried some of these brands? I need to get to Porto tonight as that’s where I have a reservation to stay but not sure we feel comfortable driving given the conditions and hassle of a car we don’t need.

We have carry-in’s and larger personal item bags.

Rede Expressos is effectively the equivalent of National Express in the UK, or Bus Eireann in the UK. Highly regarded.

And well Flixbus are Flixbus. Cheap, no frills, reliable. Not sure what other brands you are looking at. We have an expat on here who likes Gipsyy, and often recommends them. I'm happy to take her word.

Both will get you to where you are going safely, and in as much comfort as you will get on a bus.

Even the buses may be on diversion as I saw news yesterday that part of the motorway has also been washed out in the storms.

In your situation I would be booking a journey on whichever of Rede Expressos, Gipsyy or Flixbus still has capacity. I doubt there is much difference in price. The bags will go in the hold of the bus on all three.

I guess the alternative is a domestic flight, whose prices have probably gone through the roof.

Possibly too late, but the A1 motorway has suffered flood damage and may affect journeys north.
