Best areas in Lisbon to stay

We plan to be in Lisbon for a week; renting an apartment (thru AirBnB?). We hope to find one in a nice neighborhood, within walking distance of the train station (for excursions to Sintra, Obidos). We tend to have a relaxing vacation....cooking in our apartment, enjoying the ambience and sights, strolling the city in the evenings, heading out on an excursions, etc.
What might be the best neighborhoods or areas within Lisbon to rent such an apartment/flat/house?
Best regards,

The Baixa area is very central and has lots of apartments to rent. The area is flat, making the walking easier and train and metro stations are close. Alfama is 'old Lisbon' but is extremely hilly and public transport is limited to very busy trams.
We stayed in Baixa and I was pleased for a first trip to Lisbon.

Based on our experience in Lisbon, the Alfama is hilly but not limited to only trams. We rented an apartment a couple of blocks uphill from the Santa Apolónia train station. At the station, we could take the metro and buses into the more central part of town, but we usually walked, at least on the way in. We also did most of our grocery shopping there, but there are other much larger supermarkets in the metro stations all over town. Don't expect to find one above ground.

The company is called Lisbon Apartments. The place we rented (linked above) looks like it has been spiffed up since we stayed there in June, 2011. And their website lists lots of other properties around town that they now manage.

I have had good luck with renting apartments through Homeaway, VRBO or agencies like this. I'm one of the weirdos that finds AirBNB a little creepy.

Our 2011 trip started in Lisbon with learning about our Lisbon neighborhood. There are other reports about our week in Lisbon, in reverse chronological order, of course, starting with that one.
