Best area to stay in Lisbon with early morning flight out

We are arriving in Lisbon 10/10/14 and leaving early morning 10/12/14 at 0600 for Barcelona. Where's the best area to stay to be close to major cultural attractions and still be able to get to the airport on departure day? I guess if we had to choose between ease of transportation and hotel accommodation, transportation would take priority. Thanks a lot!

Last November, I stayed at Brown's Dowtown, Rua dos Sapateiros, 69-79 and found the hotel and the location to be well-suited to seeing the sights. I had an 6AM flight and the hotel arranged a cab (prepaid at a discounted rate). Ride to the airport was fast and cost 17€. I'd advise taking the 3 walking tours of Lisbon in Rick's guidebook and also take the tram to Belem to see the Monastery and other sights there. The Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon is terrific.

Lisbon is a pretty small city and the airport is close in. I would stay somewhere reasonably central and arrange for an early cab. Our cab ride last November from Baixa was less than 10 euros.

I recommend staying at a hotel that is in the center of town. Last trip I stayed in the Baixa neighborhood and it was easy to get around and visit the sites. When you stay out near an airport you lose the freedom to enjoy the sites conveniently. As another traveler mentioned just have any hotel set you up with taxi the night before. That way you can enjoy your time in the city center and easily get to the airport. You can find all of Rick's recommended lodgings in his Portugal guidebook.
