Best area in Lisbon for access to train station and sights?

First trip to Portugal. We have 3 days in Lisbon planned, but I have no idea what neighborhood/ district / area would be most convenient for walking access to a train station and best sights in town.

Looking on Hotels.com and there just too many choices - can you help me narrow it down?

Feel free to recommend a hotel too !

We just returned from Lisbon last week. We used booking.com and rented a studio apartment on Praca dos Restauradores. About a two minute walk to the train station. Walking distance to most sights. We have also stayed in Bairro Alto, probably a five or 10 minute walk to the station, depending on where in the neighborhood you stay.

You can check on booking.com, you might be able to select by neighborhood. We always put the address of any place we want to stay in Google maps to check walking distance to sights.

I stayed at a small b&b in a quiet residential neighborhood close to the Avenida metro stop (one stop up from Restauradores, but very close) about a 10 minute walk to Rossio square and station. I could walk to many sights. I have also stayed very close to Cais Sodre station and the Time Out market. That too was very convenient for walking all over Lisbon center. I usually proceed by looking at recommendations and descriptions of neighborhoods as well as accommodations in RS and Lonely Planet guidebooks before going to Booking.com.

You can add Baixa and Chiado to the areas already mentioned. The good news is that a good portion of Lisbon has good metro coverage. I would not stay in Alfama or Campo do Ourique for these reasons even though they are lovely areas.

We stayed at the Be Poet Baixa and it was perfect! We even had a balcony overlooking the city that was magical. We just left there earlier this week :)
