What are the most young kid friendly beaches on the Algarve? By that I mean calm waters, maybe shallow water, tidal pools? My grandkids, ages 4-6 , are interested in swimming and playing in the water not surfing,

The Algarve is the Atlantic not the Med and the sea is therefore very cold. It gets warmer the further east you go towards the Med. The whole of the Algarve is tidal (the Med less so). Look at places around Tavira and Cabanas.
Meia Praia in Lagos is also a great beach with flat access for youngsters. Alvor is good for families.

Thank you. I shall look for a villa on the eastern part of the Algarve. I found a nice villa near the village of Ferragudo. What do you think?
