Best airlines/flight apps for one way flights within Europe

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for apps for affordable flights within Europe? We are flying into LHR and will be staying in London for a few days before flying through to Amsterdam, and then Portugal. Which airlines or apps would you recommend for one way tickets in Europe?

Kind regards,

Joan

I use skyscanner to check for flights. Then I book direct with the airline. I often end up flying Easyjet. If you use any of the discount airlines such as Easyjet, Ryanair etc do make sure what is included and what is extra.

There is also Transavia whose main base is Amsterdam. I've also flown Easyjet. Had no issue with either, but make sure you know what is included (don't assume a carry-on is part of the price).

I also use Skyscanner and Google flights. The biggest issue with the budget airlines - Easy Jet, Ryanair, Vueling, etc. is you can only bring one bag that fits under the seat in front of you. When you add even a rolling carryon, the price frequently doubles - or almost. So, don’t get excited by the initial cheap fare you find. Sometimes it’s cheaper to go with the full service airlines so you can check a bag with no extra fees.

Take the Eurostar from London to Amsterdam. I prefer EasyJet for flights. As with all airlines, check the bag sizes carefully as they can all check that you are complying. Friends have had poor experiences with Jet2 and Wizz Air recently.

FYI: Transavia is part of the KLM/Air France group.

And for Amsterdam to Portugal, there is no single best app or airline. And it also depends on where in Portugal. But I'd suggest you look at KLM, TAP or Transavia.

One note for the Eurostar between Amsterdam and London you need to arrive early for security check and passport control as you are traveling from an EU nation to a non-EU nation. I believe I had to arrive 60minutes prior to departure and believe me it took about the entire 60mins until I sat down in the lobby.

Even with the passport and security checks, the train takes roughly the same time as flying. So there is in my opinion really no advantage in flying between London and Amsterdam if you are going city to city.
