Belem or Sintra?

Hello,

I am traveling to Lisbon for 3 days, 2 nights before I head to Spain where the majority of my traveling will be. We will arrive at the airport at 0915, and depart at 0900 on the third day. So nearly 2 full days. I really want to get as much of an experience as I can while I am there. With that being said, what are your recommendations? Is Belem or Sintra more worthwhile? And any other big recommendations for Lisbon? I wish I had more time to spend and sight-see.

Thank you!

Lisbon - We walked the Bairro Alto and Alfama neighborhoods
rode Tram 28 up to the Feira da Ladra flea market
enjoyed the terrace at Igreja de Santa Luzia
Se Cathedral
Praco do Comerico
ate sea bream at Moura Saluquia

Took the train into Sintra to see the Pena Palace and hiked down through the forest to Castelo dos Mouros and walked back into Sintra

Rode the bus to Obidos with its 14th century walls and narrow travessas

We loved everything we did !

That is a very tough choice. I loved Belem, a part of Lisbon with the beautiful Jeronimos Monastery. Sintra has two palaces that are historical and very unique. Sintra is outside of Lisbon; a train will take you there. Can you take at least a day away from Spain to add to Lisbon?

Is Belem or Sintra more worthwhile? If I had to choose, it would be Sintra. Sintra offers, in addition to the Pena Palace and adjacent ruins of the Moorish Castle, the National Palace and the Quinta da Regaleira. Nice vibe too. Expect large crowds everywhere.

Short answer, for me I would choose Sintra. With only 2 days, I would follow the Rick Steves walk of alfalfa and baixa on my first day and go to sintra on 2nd . Try to see Pena palace moorish castle and some gardens in sintra. And try to sit at a lovely viewpoint with a drink in lisbon

Easy answer - both! You have 2 full days. Spend one in Sintra, that will be a full day. Belen is a short trolley ride and can be seen in a few hours as part of your tour of Lisbon.
