Not mentioned the Portugal guide for a reason; waste of time.
It’s nice to walk around for an hour or so. There’s the tourist boat ride you can take if you’re so inclined that goes through the couple canals. When I was there last September much of the area by the canals and historic center was a construction zone, so I didn’t get a great overall impression. We had a rental car so didn’t depend on public transportation schedules.
I was underwhelmed but many people enjoy it. It’s an easy stop on the train between Lisbon and Porto, if you want to take a look.
Whoever came up with idea to market Averio as "Venice of Portugal" should win award for this clever con trick.
It is indeed successful in bringing people to the town but as this thread has shown, most gets disappointed as hyped expectations are not met.
Once construction is over, it may become a good place to stroll in the evening but "Venice",? Don't think so
