We are traveling from the States to see friends in France. I would like to see Lisbon first, as I have heard it is beautiful and fairly inexpensive.; and also have an adventure first. I figure to fly into Lisbon, spend maybe 5 days, and then go to Paris. We have been told to forget about trains; being a 20 hour trip and expensive. Would we have much trouble booking a say $200 or less one way flight Lisbon to Paris, while in Lisbon? It would be this June or very early July, and I wonder if airlines might be booked up. Would it be best to plan everything out, and book the flight out of Lisbon before we leave the States? I plan to prebook a hotel, so I guess I could prebook a flight out, though that seems a bit restrictive. What if we really like Portugal?
You could easily get a once way flight for less than $200 - likely under $100. At least it’s that cheap when you book several weeks out. However doing it less than a week out is another story. I’ve never tried it that close to the flight. You might try booking such a flight within a few days from now, to see if it’s doable now. If not, it definitely wouldn’t be doable then.
If you use Skyscanner, it will give you all the budget airlines within Europe.
Flying from Lisbon, or Porto, to Paris is a snap and cheap. I would highly recommend EasyJet for great service on a low cost carrier. This January I hopped from Lisbon to Nice to Paris on them booking my tickets just a few days in advance for under $50 each hop. Of course the flights maybe more booked up late June/ early July. I just checked their website and a one way ticket on July 4th will run you 32 euro with similar fares mid week. I upgrade on EasyJet for about 15 euro to select my own seat which also gives me priority boarding and includes an extra carry on so I don’t have to check a bag.
I travel 3 or 4 weeks a year in Europe. This was my first trip to Lisbon and I absolutely LOVED it. So much so that I’m planning a return trip in 6 months. Yes, it was extremely economical compared to the rest of Western Europe. I’d highly recommend it. Lucky you!
