Arrival in Lisbon, traveling to Porto to stay — when do I book a train?

Hi all,
Ive been looking for answers on this but need some clarity. Traveling to Portugal for the first time.

I'll be in route to Lisbon later this week US > London > Lisbon. We're arriving in Lisbon and are staying in Porto and need to take the train there. The train schedules wern't available for a while but I came across many posts saying not to worry, that I can buy my tickets the same day and that there are plenty of trains to get us to Porto. We land around 2:30pm. It doesn't seem like customs takes a short amount of times I don't want to pre-book tickets for a train I can't catch. We were hoping to get business/first class tickets given it's not a wildly short train ride.

Is it necessary to wait or are customs and security moving quicker these days? Worst case scenario, if it took several hours, would we ever be out of luck with the train or just need to take more transfers?

Similarly, we'll be traveling back to Porto and Sintra on other days — these feels safer to buy the train for in advance.

Grateful for any advice for anyone that's still int he area and recently arrived or has a ton of experience here. Thanks!

I have heard of Flexibus - that the pricing was very low respectively but not very comfortable. In this case my goal isn't necessarily to keep costs down but comfort after a long flight.

At the airport take a taxi to the Lisboa Santa Apolonia train station and a direct train to the Porto-Campanhã station.
