Amount of Euros recommended for 8 days

My husband and I are traveling to Portugal as part of a tour for 8 days this February. How many Euros (cash)
do you all recommend that we bring?

Thank You

I spent about €100 in my 8 days in Lisbon (October, 2022) on tips, small souvenirs, including one €19 lunch at a restaurant that didn't accept credit cards. I was surprised that I was able to make even very small purchases at cafes using my credit card.

I like to have about 50 euro on me. Rarely need it, but for small things it is nice to have cash, maybe in case the rare instance where a card does not work, but really, if you have a credit card with tap capability or Apple/Google Pay, you can use that for nearly everything.

If having some left over is not a problem; get 100 euro out, split it, if you run low, get another 100.

Bring no more than you can afford to lose at one time. ATMs are available if you need to withdraw more. Use a tap credit card with no foreign transaction fees for most of your expenses.

Read the Rick Steves book, EUROPE THROUGH THE BACK DOOR. Sometimes it's cheaper on Amazon over this site.

Don't 'bring' any - the best way to get euros is using your debit card at ATMs over there.

You can also go to the 'Travel Tips' sections here and read about MONEY.

Bring NONE. Go to a bank ATM when you arrive in Portugal and use a debit card that has no international transaction fees as mentioned above. I pretty much use my no-fee visa travel rewards card on every purchase I make except for some small purchases that only take cash like access to a public bathroom.

If using ATMs in Portugal (or anywhere in Europe really). Be sure to avoid Euronet ATMs. They are prominently displayed at LIS and most tourist areas. They are basically a scam charging a very high fee (often 13 euros) and a horrible exchange rate to boot. Only use the bank affiliated ATMs called Multibanco and be sure to reject the guaranteed exchange rate.

Most of your transactions will be credit/debit card. Don’t worry about having a great deal of cash in hand. Maybe start with 60 euros on arrival.
