Amarante Portugal

Has anyone stayed in Amarante? it looks lovely and charming and I am looking to spend 2 nights there.
but not sure of the layout or where it is best to stay. looking for history, walking/exploring, perhaps wine tasting.
definitely the pastry and spicy pork sandwiches

any suggestions/advice appreciated.

Hi
My suggestion is not for Amarante itself but for Quinta da Aveleda, a nearby winery that produces one of my favorite wines, Vinho Verde.
They used to have tours and tastings but with the pandemic that may have changed.
If you're going to Amarante it's worth looking into it.
Happy travels

I had lunch in Amarante. Cute little town. Not sure it's worth 2 nights, although you could use it as a base for day trips up the Douro Valley. We ate at the Confeitaria da Ponte. Excellent pastries. Located, as the name suggests, at the base of the bridge overlooking the river.
