algarve in late March

We will be spending some time in Spain in March, we would like to spend a 4-5 days in the Algarve area. We will be taking the bus from Seville to Faro. We will rent a car to travel around the Algarve. We have some friends who are in Tavira area and will spend a few days that area. Any thoughts on where we should spend our time? Thanks in advance!

I was just in the Algarve in November. Traveled there from Seville. I decided to hire a car to take us from Seville to Faro airport, where my car rental was. rather than take the bus, it was quicker and I do not really enjoy buses. So I hired mydaytrip.com, I think it was about $250. It was a splurge, but I could not have been more pleased with the experience, our driver was from Faro, and she was great, provided lots of good information about where to go in the Algarve. Stopped in Albufeira on our way to Carevoiero where we stayed at the O Castelo guest house. Hostess was excellent, view was gorgeous, location, just off the beach and 5 minute walk for the town. A couple of excellent traditional Portuguese restaurants and the breakfast served in picnic baskets a on terrace overlooking the ocean was priceless. This location worked well for us, there is a nice boardwalk here and small beach. I would definitely stay here again. We drove about 15 minuites to Praha Marinha and hiked about 3 miles of the seven hanging valleys trail that starts here, one of the best coastal hikes I have done, highly recommend. We also drove from there to Lagos. Hiked the boardwalk, it was very nice, but not as scenic as the seven hanging valleys. Town was cute. To me Lagos was too big, I preferred the quaint little town of Carevoiero as it was all very walkable. We did not explore some of the other towns as did not have enough time. The Algarve is beautiful, you will have a great time.

Tavira itself was nice, nice enough we are going back for three nights in April. Besides it being a neat town, you can take a boat to the barrier island that has some of the best beaches on the coast. March will not be swimming weather, but plenty fine for sitting in the sand. There is also the town of Santa Luzia, good for seafood and octopus.

Other than that, we just drove along the coast as daytrips, stopped in Lagos, Sagres, and Salema. Much depends on weather of course, when we were there (a late February) it was sunny and mild, but can turn cloudy and rainy cool.
