I am looking for a place to stay in the Algarve region (or nearby) with the following criteria:
Does such a place exist?
Are pools open in February in southern Portugal?
We visited the Algarve once in February. Stayed in a couple of different apartments. It was horrible. Everything was shut down, the stuff that wasn't was very tacky (made for Dutch and English tourists) and all I smelled was mold. As for a pool - do you think you could swim in February? No way.
I'd go somewhere else, honestly. I know that isn't the feedback you are really looking for, but it was truly our worst vacation ever and I'm just trying to help someone else.
those dutch and english tourist were probably residents, there are a lot of them.
as for pools etc, the Algarve tourist office seems to be pushing February as "comfortable hiking weather" - which their summer is not. If you are from Alaska it might seem OK....
There aren't a lot of mountains, nothing over 3000ft. - the Monchique area might work as long as you don't expect alpine grandeur.
Yes, the snowbirds from the UK and the Netherlands. It gave a really weird vibe.
