We want to stay in the alfama in aug/sept and are down to two available/affordable choices; the Riverside hotel or the Castle Inn. Does anyone have experience with either?

I haven't stayed in either, but just took a look at the locations. I believe the Castle Inn will give you more a feel for the Alfama/Castelo area. We stayed very close to there in an apartment and loved the area.
