Alfama area of Lisbon to Pena Palace, Sintra

Hi Everyone,

Can I take an Uber from the Alfama area of Lisbon (my hotel) directly to the Pena Palace? I'm thinking it will save me some time from walking 15 minutes to Rossio station, then an hour on the train, then the time to get transportation up to the Palace. I only have 48 hours in Lisbon and trying to make the most of it.

...And if I am just going to the OUTSIDE of the Palace, where is the best location to get dropped off by an uber (assuming the answer to my question above is yes).

Thanks in advance!

I know of two entrances. The Main entrance and the Lakes entrance. Do you plan to walk the grounds or just see the outside of the palace/terraces? At the Main entrance, after being dropped off, you can walk to the palace or take a bus to take you the short distance from the entrance to the palace (uphill walk).

The Lakes entrance leaves you a bit of a distance from the palace, but if you plan to see the grounds, it's not as busy as the Main entrance.

Last time I was there, I entered via the Lakes entrance, but then, I was taking a walking path to the palace. I'm not sure if uber can drop you off at either location or not.

Thanks, probably just seeing the outside and trying to figure out if an uber from Lisbon can drop me off right there!

Thanks,

If you only have 48 hours in Lisbon, stay in Lisbon: there’s so much to see and do without scurrying around the countryside with trains and Ubers. Have a pasteis de Belem (with coffee) before and/or after seeing the Maritime museum and the Monument to the Discoveries. (You’ll use a tram from Praia de Comercio.) Return by tram to the Baixa and walk to the Santa Justa Lift up into the Barrio Alto and eat at Largo Trinidad, then take the #28 tram across the Baixa to the Alfama and up to Castel Sao Jorge. In the evening, stroll the Baixa and eat dinner at Casa de Alentejo (and admire the murals). By then, you’ll realize what a magical city Lisbon is and the best part is you’ll have another 24 hours to enjoy it.

Agree with dougandlynn,

48 hours is barely enough to explore the Alfama. Even adding Belem may feel like a stretch.

I assume you are there for a vacation, not a race.

Hi,

I'm there solo for a trade show in Germany and making a 48 hour stop in Portugal.

Just curious if I can take an UBER from Lisbon right up to the entrnce to the Pena Palace. I'm pretty good at seeing a lot and being solo makes it about as easy as it gets. 30+ trips to China has taught me to take advantage of days off.

Thanks in advance!

I can't see that you would have a problem taking Uber to Pena Palace. One thing to note is that from the main entrance (where you will most likely be dropped off), there is still a short walk to the palace itself which is uphill.

Buy your tickets the night before to avoid waiting in a ticket line.

Have fun.

Edit to add: check the site to make sure that the palace is open. There have been closures due to dry weather and fires.

Thanks! Was wondering if the ticket office is the closest uber stop...meaning everyone has to walk that final 10 minutes up hill....

Thanks,

Yes, or you can buy a bus ticket to take you that distance once inside the entrance. I believe it is the 3 euro Supplements - Transfer you can add to the ticket price. I don't think it will necessarily save you time though, just a walk.

Thanks, was just curious if the uber could take me to where the bus takes me. I'll already have my palace ticket. I'm not going in the palace, just walking around it.
