My husband and I will be arriving May 26 in Lisbon. We'd like to see a little Lisbon and also the Alentejo region. We only have five days :-( So.... any and all suggestions re lodging, eateries, must see locales etc etc. We are very much on the budget end of the spectrum. Suggestions on transportation also welcomed as we won't be renting a car. Thanks!
I have only visited the Alentejo region with a car, which is still time consuming with distances between places, which is why I recommend staying in Lisbon the entire time. Sure you can do a day trip to Evora, but with only five days, and you will be there in a few days from now, use your time efficiently. Everything else you need (budget friendly as well) regarding recommendations are in Rick's book, which is how I have planned trips to Lisbon in the past. Even our family who live in Lisbon are impressed with his book and his insights! Possibly others who have used public transportation to the Alentejo region will offer their perspective and advice. Whatever you decide, enjoy your time and good luck!
I agree with the last post. With such a short time available, stick to Lisbon and more local day trips from there, as you need a car to make the most of the Alentejo.
Thanks everyone! Your advice has been helpful (and we've taken it!). Cheers.
