Airport strikes in Lisbon

We will be flying TAP on 13th September and apparently there is a strike ongoing. We have tickets that allow one checked bag but are wondering if we should switch to carry ons (TAP is very restrictive with size and we will be in Portugal for 3 weeks) What recent experiences have other travelers had with checked baggage at Lisbon airport?

During a strike, I would definitely just take a carryon. However, during normal times, I always check a bag and have never had a problem. Hopefully, you will have access to a washer while here. With that, using a carryon for three weeks is doable, but, admittedly a challenge.

These strikes have been a huge pain this year!

Thanks I think we can manage with carry ons but I will have to leave my hiking poles behind! We were hoping to hike in Serra da Estrela park (Manteigas area) but might not be able to anyway because of the fires! I don’t suppose you have any info about the fires??

We’re in Portugal now. We arrived at the Lisbon Airport on September 15 (Monday) with carry on luggage, including hiking poles. Flew direct from Chicago. We had zero issues and hope the same is true for you!
