Multicity prices for multistop airline tickets from US to Lisbon, then return to US from Porto are insanely expensive. Any alternative recommendations? Tour begins Lisbon, ends Porto. Chicago home airport.

InterCity trains from Porto back to Lisbon take as little as 3 hours. You'd have to add getting-to-airport time, but if it saves tons of money... Multi-city tickets are sometimes a lot more expensive; it depends on the gateways you're using and your home airport.

Reverse your trip so you end in Lisbon. Go to Porto upon arrival and work your way back?

If you have AA miles there are lots of options for 30,000 miles in Economy from OPO to ORD. A great use of miles.
