My husband and I have a flight booked on Ryanair from Porto to Faro departing on Monday, Sept 1st. I have been reading about possible strikes on that date. Just wondering how others are planning on handling the situation? We are flying TAP into Lisbon and we’re planning on bringing a suitcase. I believe now that if we didn’t do a suitcase but chose to bring a carry on with Ryanair it would have to be checked in. Any helpful advice that someone could provide? Tips, tricks…anything!
The August strikes were cancelled after the first two weekends but - now new ones have been announced starting 3 September. If you are flying 1 September, you should be fine.
If it were me, and I thought there would be strikes one the days I wanted to travel between Porto and Faro, I would simply take the train and avoid the airport altogether.

The Portugal News does a pretty good job of keeping up with these type things.
For what it is worth, we have made the decision to forgo our four-day Barcelona stopover from 9/2-9/5 and are flying directly into Portugal once we arrive in Barcelona on the 2nd. It's a sacrifice as we were really looking forward to Barcelona, but the risk of being stuck in the Barcelona airport for who knows how long just to get to Porto wasn't worth the anxiety of the unknown. We have decided to start our trip to Portugal in the Algarve region (something we were not planning to do) and forgoing Spain altogether. Somewhat disappointed but starting our vacation at a beach isn't that painful of a concession at all!
