My husband and I will be spending three nights in Porto during the first week of November. We want to do one day trip and I need opinions. Should we do a Douro Valley wine tasting or a tour that includes Guimares and Braga? I'm leaning toward Douro Valley but am wondering if the weather should be taken into consideration. This is our first trip to Portugal so I will appreciate wisdom from anyone who is more experienced.

We did a wonderful seven day river cruise on the Douro that included a day trip to Salamanca, Spain. That was a wonderful city, but a bit too far directly from Porto.
We also did a day trip to Santiago de Compostela in the Galacian province of Spain. Galacia is very Celtic and they play bagpipes there.
It was a great day trip to a historic city.
If you don't take the river cruise, definately go up the river, either on a short day cruise or take the train to Regia. The train runs along the north shore of the river. The River Valley is amazing.
