Advice for first time to Portugal

We are spending 9 days in Portugal, flying into Porto on Oct 6 and leaving from Lisbon on Oct 15th. We plan to spend 4 nights in Porto, with a day trip to the Douro Valley and then take the train to Lisbon to spend the remaining 5 nights, with some day trips.

Does this sound reasonable or is there another city or town along the train route to Lisbon that is a must see?

Thank you

I really liked Coimbra, and you might consider taking a night from Porto in order to see it, but generally your plan looks good. Not rushed.

Can you spend a night or two in the Douro Valley? We just got back from Portugal (first trip) and we are planning our next trip because we had such an amazing experience. We loved the Douro Valley. Some very interesting towns there, amazing wine tasting experiences in small vineyards and jaw dropping scenery. We spent 4 nights in Lisbon and thought that was a night too many.

From Porto, take a day trip (or half day trip) to Braga to see the magnificent Bom Jesus.

I loved Lisbon a lot, thereโ€™s plenty to see there, so in my opinion, five nights is fine.

Lisbon is very nice, but depending on your pace, it may not need Five days. Consider taking the very easy day trip to Sinatra while in Lisbon. That surely is a full day in and of itself. In Lisbon, there is very good public transit to get you around, which can be supplemented by the occasional Uber.
