I am travelling from Lisbon to Porto over 10 days mid-august. I was planning on staying in airbnb's but i dont have a firm itenerary. I am travelling solo and didnt want to preplan too much.
Am I foolish to believe I will find accomidations as I go or should I book in adavance?

I'm sure you won't need to sleep in the park, especially if your budget, standards, or destinations are flexible. In addition, I'd expect smaller beach towns to get filled up before the big cities, especially with locals escaping the big cities. If you look at options available for booking this weekend, do you find enough?
You will stand a better chance of finding accommodation inland than on the coast at that time of year. Personally, I wouldn't go without prebooking, as I don't want to take up too much time when there trying to find somewhere suitable.
A better option in Europe than Airbnb is either Trip Advisor rentals or booking.com, which offer better rates. Try some dummy bookings for your dates and check the availability. Monitor this and if places are filling up, start booking!
