I just completed 61 days in Spain between April 1 and May 18 I’m planning to go to Portugal on 15 October. Is that considered a legal entry or is it in violation of the 90 day rule within six months?

First, the days do not make sense April 1 to May 18 is not 61 days, more like ~48 depending on exact entry and exit.
Even then, using April 1 as your first entry, and 29 available days for October, the 15th should be fine for entry.
