8 days Itinerary in Portugal

Hello fellow travelers,

My husband and I are planning a trip to Portugal first week of October .

We will arrive early afternoon on October 1st. Flying to Lisbon and out from Porto.

We have 8 full days , here is an initial itinerary, any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated.

We love to walk around, nature, culture , food and some museum ( maybe one or two for the whole trip).

Day 1 lisbon

Day 2 lisbon and Belem

Day 3 Sintra and maybe cascais

Day 4 rent a car , go to Lagos

Day 5 drive around Algarve

Day 6 drive to Obidas then Coimbra( sleep at Coimbra)

Day 7 drive to Duro Vally , sleep in Porto

Day 8 Porto

Was thinking to just return the car at Porto airport.

Thank you

I would not go to Algarve, Lagos. Use those two days to go Evora ( one night) and add another day to Lisbon. Belem is part of Lisbon, our favorite spot.
Go Lisbon to Evora to Obidos and on.
We returned our car at Porto airport, easy.

I agree. I wouldn't do as much driving as you're planning on such a short trip.

I am also in agreement with others to limit driving due to your short visit. I would eliminate Algarve. We were in Lisbon for 4 nights and did a day trip to Sintra and Cascais. We started in Lisbon>Evora>Obidos>Coimbra>Douro Valley>Porto. We had a total of 15 nights. Favorite stops along the way- Batalha and Alcobaca. Best of all were the warm and inviting people of Portugal.

A week is barely enough time to cover Lisbon to Porto and to drive all the way from Lisbon to the Algarve for one day there would be far too much driving than I could bear. You can easily fill 2-3 days in Lisbon, but Porto is more compact and could be seen in one day. I have had good and atrocious weather in early October in the Algarve region.

Sintra and Cascais are separate day trips from Lisbon.

Personally, I prefer Tomar, Alcobaca and Batalha to Obidos.
