5am International KLM Flight from Lisbon

I am reading various things about what time to arrive at the airport. One said to be there 3 hours ahead. Another said that the check-in counter only opens 2 hours before the flight. I'd hate to get there at 2 am and then have to wait an hour just to check in. I'm looking for advice on what time I should be there.

Or, maybe I should stay there from when I arrive the evening before and not even try to get a hotel - if I have to leave the hotel at 1:30 am. Perhaps just stay at the ariport all night with a rented sleeping pod - if that's available. Thanks for your help.

How far in advance do I need to check-in?

The recommended check-in time varies depending on the flight. In order to avoid delays and make the most of your pre-boarding time, please respect your airline's minimum check-in time. That way, you also avoid the risk of arriving after check-in closes:

At the Airport's check-in desk:

  • Schengen flights: 90 minutes

Schengen regulations have removed controls at the internal borders of signatory states: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

  • Non-Schengen flights (Europe): 120 minutes

  • Flights to Third Countries (Intercontinental): 180 minutes

Thanks. I think I've got this. I'm flying LIS to AMS (Amsterdam) and AMS to LAX (US). I didn't know if I should follow the time guidelines for the inter-Europe flights or the International flights. I contacted KLM. They said I should be there 2 hours before. That sounds much better to me in the middle of the night without anything much open - including the airport lounges.
